1. Paint your face all white-- as white as you can get. The darker your skin, the more you have to apply. (Go over your eyebrows too)

2. Paint the tip of your nose red. Try to go in a circle the best you can.

3. Take a black or charcoal color and paint inverted triangles from the corner of your eyes down to the top of your cheeks. Don't worry about making these perfect.

4. Take a bright blue and paint the entire lid and area under your eyebrow.

5. Take a red and make a large circle on both your cheeks.

6. If you have a red afro wig, great. If not, go ahead and tease your hair out. A blowdrier and hairspray works pretty well with a brush.

7. It's really all in the personality. I've never really seen a 'scarry' clown. They all look friendly, but then they kill you.

Good luck!

there are several reasons why people used warpaint to decorate themselves before battle.

some people did it because they believed covering yourself on warpaint blessed by a priest/druid/shaman would grant them protection or courage or strength from their gods in the coming battle.

other people did it because it was an easy way of showing your friends and your enemies your rank and prowess in battle, much like knights hundreds of years later adopted their own patterns and symbols to identify themselves, so men would cover themselves in unique patterns as a way of showing who they were and what they had done (their rank in the tribe, how many men they had killed etc) (the more paint, the more complex the designs, the higher the warrior and the more impressive his feats of courage a young man in his first battle may only have one small mark showing his tribal badge, an old chieftain could have a lifetimes worth of tattoos and designs on him each one representing something he had done in his life as a warrior or leader) to other tribes if your facing a man covering in tattoos you know your up against a proven killer, so intimidating would be the effect, (if you managed to kill this warrior though, then you would get a new tattoo or pattern to wear for your next battle, to show the world you killed MR X)

there is also a physiological aspect to warpaint, some believe that the very act of putting on your warpaint is a way of protecting yourself mentally from the coming battle, it is believed that before a battle the men would gather together (possibly with their tribal priest/druid/shamen/witchdoctor) and the whole act became a ceremony perhaps with religious meaning, the idea was by putting on a 'new face' you were becoming the warrior, so in effect your 'normal face' would be unpainted it would be YOU the normal person who did normal things lived a normal life, once you put on your 'war face' you became a different person, you put aside the normal you and became the warrior, the killer, once battle was over you removed the 'warface' and went back to being a normal person.
some feel this is a way people protected themselves from the horrors of killing and battle, by believing it wasn't ME who killed those people, it was THE WARRIOR.

the SAMURAI of japan believed a similar thing, they believed that once a man put on his armour he was no longer the same man but a killing machine purely excising to fight and kill, once the armour was off they became normal again and as such felt no guilt for killing.

" Yellow paint says a warrior is ready to die. Red paint signifies blood, green under the eyes makes for " see better at night". Yellow , the color of death means a man has lived his life and will fight to the finish " ( Capron,1956)

Back in the old days, before anybody alive right now was born, the paint they used back then was more of a ritual than anything else. Also, there were situations where they would fight in a mass formation rather than tactically spreading apart. Now, when we use camouflage we only use colors that match your environment so it's harder to see you.
