Face painting is one of those hobbies that is so enjoyable and so much fun. Whether at friends’ parties, charity events, fetes or other school functions, you will never be short of customers as children just love being painted. If you’re just venturing out as a face painter, then cheek designs are the perfect starting point for you. And, as Christmas is so close, there are lots of easy festive cheek ideas that you could kick off with. Let’s have a look at some ideas that you may find useful.

EASY CHEEK ART IDEAS

GIRLS: Hearts, flowers, dolphins, butterflies, spider’s web, stars
BOYS: Swords, snakes, spiders, fake wounds, footballs, flags, octopus
CHRISTMAS CHEEK ART: Christmas trees, snowmen, easy Santa face, stars, holly, snowflakes

There are many children’s face painting books in libraries, endless pictures you can look up online and all will help to inspire you.
Get a face painting practice pad and practise highlighting and shading. I believe that anyone who can doodle can create their own face paint design. Remember it can be just a few curly lines around the eyes pointing towards the hairline. Use colours that go well together. Purple, pinks, lilacs and blues look beautiful when combined. Add some silver and white highlights to make the most of the colours. It can be whatever you want it to be. Bring the colours to life and add some little dots and a touch of glitter and, hey presto, you have a design. Don’t be scared, have a go and have fun.

BUTTERFLIES: The butterfly is so popular. Even the most basic designs can look beautiful. You will need a small brush. Paint four coloured wings on the cheek then outline the wings in black. You will need to paint a line down the centre of the wings to represent the body and add the antennae with a fine brush. Look at butterfly pictures and try to copy the texture of the central line, making it thicker where needed. Think of matching colours you could use to fill in the wings, add a touch of glitter and give yourself a clap. And remember, no matter how basic your first designs are, the kiddies you will be painting will not be looking at your creation in the same critical way as you. They will be full of admiration for how beautiful it looks.

OCTOPUS: A great little fun design that boys seem to love. Start with the round head and, if you want to be a little adventurous, you could even paint some of the eight wriggly arms in all directions, some aimed towards the subject’s eyes, nose and mouth. Purple and blues are popular colours and you could also add different shades of blue down all sides for shading and fine white lines to bring the design alive. Don’t forget a couple of white dots for the eyes and, when they’re dry, a tiny black spot on top of each for a perfect finish.

Never be afraid to get creative! Why not make the eyes extra large and, with a very fine brush, add some long eyelashes? Paint on some very bright lips and a touch of red for the cheeks and you have a girly octopus! How about some large black rimmed glasses to make a brainbox octopus! There are so many ideas you could use to put your own stamp on this and you could end up with a whole range of funny girl and boy octopuses. As it is Christmas soon, add a Santa hat for fun and why not throw in a scarf and maybe even a pipe! Have a go and have fun.

It’s amazing how our creativity seems to have no boundaries. Artistry has gone a long way and different mediums have cropped up. But when it comes to art, most people would think about big pictures by talented artists who someday would have a name as big as the price tag attached to their work. But artistry is not just for the highly talented, mostly, artistry begins with children and this is where its purity lies unchanged.

Face painting is an art where people, with or without exceptional talent can have lots of fun. Parents and their children can have a fantastic bonding time together while their faces are being painted. For parties, both children and adults can go wacky over the many different designs that they can make use of.

It is not just at children’s birthday parties can you find face painting. Adult parties have them too and this happens most especially in Halloween. But that doesn’t have to stop there. There are still many events and venues that you can have face painting as an activity or a contest, aside from the usual costume competitions, or maybe just plainly wanting to go and look your best or you’re spookiest.

Forget about monsters, fairies and underworld creatures, there are so much more to face painting than scary ghouls. Your creativity would only be limited by your imagination. But if you’re stuck in a rut and can’t seem to get any ideas on which design you want, then you will need some face painting examples.

The great thing about face painting examples today is that you don’t have to go to the library or to a bookstore to borrow or purchase face painting books to get your creative juices flowing. All you simply have to do is to log on to the internet and do a search for the numerous face painting examples that are offered in the websites that do offer them.

Many of these face painting examples are given for free. You will be able to browse through their pages and see the designs they have. Usually the examples of these designs are already categorized by their themes. So if you’re looking for an animal or say nature or clown designs, you will be able to find their examples in a jiffy.

It’s always advisable to know first the design that you are looking for. This way, you can directly go to the category that you are looking for and start choosing which one you think you will be able to copy or reproduce. If you just go in without any idea of what you want or need, you will be swamped by the thousands of face painting examples that are available and will have so much difficulty in choosing one.

Also, try to choose that you think you will be able to do. If you pick a design that is too elaborate for your artistic skills, you may just end up frustrated and botch the job. Also remember to get the opinion of your child and let him or her help you choose, this should be fun for both you and your child. Remember, face painting should be fun as they are done for fun filled activities, don’t be stressed out even when you are just beginning to look for a design or example. Go online and get your work over with in no time at all.

i’ve been painting everything from shoes to canvas to murals on commission, with the help of my manager who has now moved to LA and im on my own now. work has been slow. every opportunity seems to ask for a website. and i don’t really feel like making one that i have to maintain. and i don’t have the money to pay someone to do it. my question is would a face book fan page or regular page be a good way to go with as far as making a site since everything is basically there.

Even a facebook page you’d have to maintain but the platform is widely used and you’d reach a larger client base (with their targeted advertising). I’d say it’s a good idea to start with. Once you are bigger then I’d set up a proper website.

Kid face painting is generally fun and easy. However, before you start on the activity, there are some things that you may want to consider first. Children are different from adults in many ways. For one, they are more at risk of getting into accidents and secondly, they are more of a concern especially when it comes to their parents. Getting to know safety practices is a must especially if you are planning to go professional with your kid face painting activity.

Here are the 7 simple steps to safer kid face painting:

1: Clean your hands to prevent infection and germs transferring from one child to the next. You can use soap and water or hand sanitizers in between sessions.

2: Make sure that you have everything you need and that the paints you are using are non-toxic and suitable for the skin. Paints that are not meant for the skin can cause allergic reactions like rashes. Also make sure you don’t use ordinary metallic glitter, as these can irritate both the eyes and the skin. Always use clean tools. If you must, dip your brushes in clean water before every session.

3: Prepare ahead of time and have everything you need ready in one place. Having to go and get other tools or materials will leave the child unattended. The child may accidentally fall off the chair or hurt his or her eyes with the paint and other tools.

4: Make the child behave and explain to him or her the need to be still while you are face painting. A child who is constantly moving or making sudden movements presents a risk of getting into an accident. The paint may go into the eyes or your painting tools can cause bruising or cuts. There are several ways to keep a child comfortable and you can find different techniques on kid face painting over the Internet.

5: Position yourself comfortably before you start face painting. If you are in an awkward position you can trip and injure the child in front of you. Also make sure you are in a wide space-if you are in a cooped-up area other children who may be playing or running around can accidentally hit you or the seated child.

6: Warm water and a gentle cleanser must be used to wash off paint. You can also dampen a piece of cotton to clean the face. Don’t rub on the skin, as this can cause irritation.

7: Take short breaks in between face painting sessions. Drink water if you are thirsty and eat when hungry. When you aren’t able to focus properly, not only will you make mistakes but you might also poke the child by accident.

If you keep these 7 tips to safer kid face painting, you’ll definitely enjoy the activity more and worry less whether you are doing the right thing in kid face painting. You will be able to work your way up to being a professional face painter while avoiding confrontations from other parents.
